Finnish Language Club for Junior High School Students

Started Feb 14
90 euros
ZOOM

Description

This club is designed for school students who experience difficulties studying school subjects in Finnish, such as history, biology, social studies, and other theoretical subjects. Often, these difficulties are not caused by a lack of ability but by an insufficient vocabulary and challenges in understanding textbook texts. When a student’s vocabulary is limited, it becomes difficult to read and comprehend textbook chapters, correctly interpret new concepts, complete written assignments, and perform well on tests. As a result, academic performance may decline, along with self-confidence and motivation to study. The aim of this club is to help students expand and systematize their vocabulary within the framework of the school curriculum, develop skills for working with academic texts, and confidently use newly acquired vocabulary in both spoken and written language. During the sessions, we thoroughly work through selected chapters from school textbooks such as Ritarit 5, Ritarit 6, Pisara 5, Pisara 6, and others according to students’ needs. Together we read the texts, explain the meanings of words and concepts, practice understanding the content of the chapters, retelling the material, and answering questions. A solid mastery of the vocabulary and terminology of individual chapters helps students better understand school subjects in Finnish, write tests and exams with greater confidence, absorb new material more efficiently in class, and improve overall language confidence and academic results. The club takes place on Saturdays via Zoom from 12:15 to 1:00 p.m. from February 14 to March 28, 2026, on the following dates: 14.2., 28.2., 7.3., 14.3., 21.3., 28.3.2026. The course includes 6 sessions of 45 minutes each. Please register by 13.2.2026, 11:59 PM.
